What to Expect During Your Tooth Extraction at Toothopia in Inglewood
Most extractions are straightforward, so you always know what comes next. Your visit starts with an honest look at the tooth and a plan built around your comfort.
Here is how a typical appointment unfolds:
- Oral examination and dental X-rays. We review the tooth, its root, and the surrounding bone to confirm removal is the right choice.
- Treatment planning and questions. We explain what we see, walk through your choices, and answer anything on your mind before we start.
- Local anesthetic. We fully numb the area so the procedure feels like pressure, not pain.
- Gentle removal. In a simple extraction, the tooth is loosened and eased from the socket. A surgical extraction may involve a small gum incision or minor bone removal for a tooth that is impacted or broken at the gumline.
- Sutures and gauze. If needed, we place dissolvable sutures, then have you bite on a gauze pad so a healthy blood clot can form.
- Recovery instructions. You leave with simple written post-extraction care steps and a direct number to call with any questions.
Most single-tooth extractions take about 20 to 40 minutes. Ready to stop guessing about that aching tooth? Book a consultation and let us take a look.

When Our Inglewood Dentists Recommend Tooth Removal
At Toothopia Dental, we try to preserve your natural teeth first and recommend tooth removal only when saving the tooth would risk your comfort or health. Extraction becomes the better path once damage or infection goes beyond what a filling, crown, or root canal can repair.
Common reasons we suggest an extraction include:
- A severely decayed tooth with a large cavity that has destroyed too much structure to restore
- A cracked or broken tooth that splits below the gumline
- A dental infection or dental abscess that keeps returning despite treatment
- Advanced gum disease that has loosened the tooth from the jawbone
- An impacted wisdom tooth, or crowded wisdom teeth causing pain, swelling, or damage to neighbors
After an exam and dental X-rays, we create a treatment plan based on your specific needs:
- If you feel nervous, we move slowly, explain each step, and offer sedation so anxiety never stands between you and relief.
- For sudden, severe tooth pain, swollen or bleeding gums, we treat it as urgent and see you the same day when possible.
- When there is bone loss, a medical condition, or a previously failed treatment, we coordinate any oral surgery so removal stays safe.
- If you want to move fast toward a replacement, we map out the timeline for a future implant, bridge, or dentures in the same visit.
Not sure your tooth can be saved? Call us at 310-643-6221 and we will give you a straight answer.
Why Patients Trust Our Inglewood Team for Tooth Extraction Care

Patients trust Toothopia Dental because we treat extractions as a comfort-first procedure, never a rushed one. From the first phone call to your final check-in, the goal is calm, gentle care.
What sets our approach apart:
- Comfort at the center. Thorough numbing, sedation options for anxious patients, and a pace you control.
- Precise diagnostics. Digital dental X-rays let us see the tooth root, socket, and jawbone before we begin, which means fewer surprises.
- A conservative mindset. We lean on preventive dentistry and remove a tooth only when it truly protects your long-term health.
- Honest communication. You hear your real options in plain language, including how we can preserve your natural teeth when possible.
- A plan for what comes next. If a tooth must go, we explain replacements like implants, bridges, and dentures so no gap catches you off guard.

What Inglewood Patients Say About Our Tooth Extractions
I'm forever grateful for Toothopia and all their whole staff! Every time I come here I feel incredibly welcomed and everyone is so friendly, understanding and kind. A big thanks to Kelly and Georgina! I still have a lot of work to get done on my teeth but today I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Nadia and Victoria for taking care of me today and doing an amazing job on teeth!
The staff is outstanding, always helpful. Kelly has been a lot of help with keeping my balance straight, lol. She good at what she does. Dr. Michelle does outstanding work, I highly recommend her for all your dental work. My crown fit perfect, the color matched all the rest of my teeth. I’m so pleased with the work that I’ve had done.
I came here because my tooth was hurting. My gum had receded and exposed the root. They told me that my gums were never going to grow back and and that a deep cleaning was required to stop the recession and that later on skin grafting could restore my gums over the root. They also told me I had 12 cavities that needed to be filled. My prior dentist a year earlier told me my teeth were fine. They canceled my regular cleaning, as it was not sufficient for the amount of disarray in my mouth, and took me into a little room to discuss my several thousand dollar treatment solution. The woman there told me that I needed to go to my employer and get the higher level dental insurance so that I would only need to pay about $3k out of pocket. I left in a panic and asked my parents if we had a family history of complete mouth disintegration around age 30. They said no, and advised me to find another dentist. I bought a water pick and spent a few months religiously cleaning my gums and using the fancy mouthwash and my gums grew back over the root and no longer hurts(that advice was thanks to Dr. Google). Then, I found another dentist who took another set of X-rays and was astounded to hear him finish his exam and say “everything looks good, no cavities, just some minor plaque buildup and we’ll get that off right now”. Hope this can help someone else save some hard earned money.
