How Tooth Extractions Work at Our Culver City Clinic
A tooth extraction, also known as tooth removal, is a straightforward procedure that removes a tooth from its socket, and our process is built to keep it calm and predictable. Before anything begins, we take dental X-rays, complete an oral examination, and walk you through treatment planning so you know exactly what to expect.
Here is how a typical visit unfolds:
- Exam and imaging. We review dental X-rays and check the tooth, gum tissue, and surrounding jawbone.
- A local anesthetic fully numbs the area so you feel pressure, not pain.
- For a simple extraction, we gently loosen and lift the tooth. For a surgical extraction, we may make a small gum incision or perform minor bone removal to reach an impacted tooth.
- Protecting the site. We place a gauze pad so a healthy blood clot can form in the socket, and we add sutures when needed.
- You leave with clear recovery instructions covering soft foods, an ice pack, and simple pain management.
A single simple extraction often takes about 20 to 40 minutes, while surgical cases may run a little longer.

When We Recommend Tooth Extractions in Culver City
We only recommend removing a tooth when saving it is no longer the healthiest option. At Toothopia Dental, our priority is always to preserve your natural teeth whenever treatments like preventive care or root canal therapy can help.
An extraction may be needed for:
- A severely decayed tooth that cannot be restored with a filling or crown
- A broken or cracked tooth that cannot be repaired
- Decay or infection reaching the dental pulp
- A dental abscess affecting surrounding tissues
- Impacted wisdom teeth causing pain or crowding
- Persistent tooth pain, swelling, or sensitivity from a failing tooth
Every case is different, and we confirm the best option after an exam. For anxious patients, we explain each step and provide a comfortable, calm experience. After extraction, we can also discuss replacement options such as dental implants, dental bridges, or dentures to protect your bite and smile.
Why Patients Choose Our Culver City Team for Tooth Extractions
At Toothopia Dental, we pair gentle, experienced hands with technology that makes tooth removal safer and more precise. Clear dental X-rays and thoughtful treatment planning mean fewer surprises during oral surgery and a calmer visit for you.
What sets our care apart:
- A gentle, judgment-free approach for people who dread the dentist
- Careful pain management before, during, and after your extractions
- Honest guidance on when a tooth root can be saved and when removal is wiser
- Clear post-extraction care so you heal with confidence
- A comfortable local setting that is easy to reach for neighbors near you
We also make aftercare simple. You will know how to protect the blood clot, when antibiotics are needed, and what a normal healing process looks like, so a rare problem like dry socket is easy to catch early. Many patients feel more comfortable once they understand the process and know what to expect before, during, and after extraction.

What Culver City Patients Say About Our Tooth Extractions
I'm forever grateful for Toothopia and all their whole staff! Every time I come here I feel incredibly welcomed and everyone is so friendly, understanding and kind. A big thanks to Kelly and Georgina! I still have a lot of work to get done on my teeth but today I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Nadia and Victoria for taking care of me today and doing an amazing job on teeth!
I've been traumatized to go to the dentist since I was 12... I finally got dental insurance 4 years ago, but went to another dentist that traumatized me even more.... 4 years later, I found the best dentist I didn't even know existed which was only 7 minutes away from my house... it was like watching heavens door open, not to be dramatic or anything, but I was truly blessed no lie.... my biggest worry was a root canal I haven't covered in 14 years, they fixed that right up, gave me a crown, did my cleaning, filled some old cavity fillings and the price was heaven sent as well with my insurance I could cry... I finally am able to fix my teeth without struggling to choose between having a healthy mouth or buying groceries ...and the front desk is so nice! Everyone is so nice! They remember your face and name it doesn't even feel like im going to the dentist, thank you so much for existing
I came here because my tooth was hurting. My gum had receded and exposed the root. They told me that my gums were never going to grow back and and that a deep cleaning was required to stop the recession and that later on skin grafting could restore my gums over the root. They also told me I had 12 cavities that needed to be filled. My prior dentist a year earlier told me my teeth were fine. They canceled my regular cleaning, as it was not sufficient for the amount of disarray in my mouth, and took me into a little room to discuss my several thousand dollar treatment solution. The woman there told me that I needed to go to my employer and get the higher level dental insurance so that I would only need to pay about $3k out of pocket. I left in a panic and asked my parents if we had a family history of complete mouth disintegration around age 30. They said no, and advised me to find another dentist. I bought a water pick and spent a few months religiously cleaning my gums and using the fancy mouthwash and my gums grew back over the root and no longer hurts(that advice was thanks to Dr. Google). Then, I found another dentist who took another set of X-rays and was astounded to hear him finish his exam and say “everything looks good, no cavities, just some minor plaque buildup and we’ll get that off right now”. Hope this can help someone else save some hard earned money.
