Healthy gums are the quiet foundation of every smile, and catching trouble early is what keeps them strong. Clinical Signs Our Inglewood Periodontics Team Looks For
Not every warning sign is obvious, so our exam looks for specific clues that point to gum disease before it spreads. Recognizing these early is the heart of good periodontal care.
Signs we check for include:
- Gums that bleed during brushing or flossing
- Red, swollen, or tender gum tissue
- Persistent bad breath, also called halitosis
- Gum recession that makes teeth look longer
- Deepening periodontal pockets around one or more teeth
- Loose teeth or a change in how they fit together
- Buildup of plaque and hardened tartar, or calculus, along the gumline
If any of these sound familiar, an exam brings clarity. We explain what we find in plain language and walk you through your options with no pressure.

Step-by-Step Periodontics (Perio) Treatment Process in Our Inglewood Clinic
Every plan starts with a clear, ordered process so you always know what comes next. Here is how gum disease treatment typically unfolds at our clinic:
- Diagnosis: We map your periodontal pockets, take dental x-rays, and confirm the stage of gum disease.
- Comfort planning: We discuss local anesthesia and sedation dentistry so the visit stays calm and relaxed.
- Deep cleaning: Using ultrasonic scalers and hand instruments, we perform scaling and root planing to clear bacteria, plaque, and tartar below the gumline.
- Targeted therapy: When needed, we add laser periodontal therapy with a diode laser or antibiotic therapy to calm the infection.
- Reevaluation: We remeasure your gums to confirm they are healing as expected.
- Periodontal maintenance: We set a cleaning schedule that keeps the infection from coming back.
Have questions about any step? Call 310-643-6221 and we will walk you through it.
Periodontal Treatment Options Available at Our Inglewood Dental Clinic
Gum disease looks different for every patient, so we tailor periodontal treatment to the stage and pattern of infection we find. Toothopia Dental offers a full range of options under one roof.
Common options include:
- Scaling and root planing: A deep cleaning that treats early to moderate gum disease without surgery.
- Laser periodontal therapy: A diode laser removes diseased tissue and bacteria with minimal discomfort.
- Pocket reduction surgery: Reshapes gum and bone to shrink deep pockets that trap bacteria.
- Gum grafting: Restores tissue lost to gum recession and shields exposed roots.
- Bone grafting and regenerative therapy: Rebuilds support where bone loss has occurred, sometimes using Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF).
- Crown lengthening: Refines the gumline for both health and a balanced smile.
- Periodontal maintenance: Ongoing deep cleanings that keep your results stable.
If a patient has advanced bone loss or a prior failed treatment, we build a staged plan and confirm the right approach after an in-person exam. Not sure which option fits your gums?

Why Patients Trust Our Inglewood Clinic for Gum Disease
Trust grows when patients feel heard, and that starts the moment you walk in. For nervous patients who have avoided the dentist for years, we move at a pace you control and explain every step before it happens. For an urgent case, such as a painful abscess or sudden swelling, we make room to see you quickly and ease the discomfort first.
Our approach blends careful diagnostics with a gentle touch. In our Inglewood practice, we combine digital x-rays, precise probing, and modern therapies so you receive thorough gum disease treatment without unnecessary surgery. For patients who want faster results, laser therapy often means less bleeding and a shorter recovery than traditional gum surgery.
The result is periodontal care that feels personal. Toothopia Dental treats your gums as part of your whole health, not a rushed appointment, and we are here whenever you are ready to begin.

Schedule Your Periodontal Evaluation in Inglewood with Our Dental Team
Booking a periodontal evaluation with Toothopia Dental is the first step, and it is simpler than most patients expect. During this visit, we gently measure the small spaces around each tooth with a periodontal probe, review dental x-rays for early bone loss, and check for gum recession, swelling, and bleeding. That gives us a complete picture of your gum health in a single appointment.
Many patients in Inglewood put this off because their mouth feels fine, yet gum disease is often painless in its early stages. An evaluation lets us catch gingivitis before it advances to periodontitis, when periodontal care becomes more involved. The sooner we look, the more of your natural smile we can protect.

What Our Inglewood Patients Say About Periodontics (Perio) Care at Our Clinic
I'm forever grateful for Toothopia and all their whole staff! Every time I come here I feel incredibly welcomed and everyone is so friendly, understanding and kind. A big thanks to Kelly and Georgina! I still have a lot of work to get done on my teeth but today I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Nadia and Victoria for taking care of me today and doing an amazing job on teeth!
The staff is outstanding, always helpful. Kelly has been a lot of help with keeping my balance straight, lol. She good at what she does. Dr. Michelle does outstanding work, I highly recommend her for all your dental work. My crown fit perfect, the color matched all the rest of my teeth. I’m so pleased with the work that I’ve had done.
I came here because my tooth was hurting. My gum had receded and exposed the root. They told me that my gums were never going to grow back and and that a deep cleaning was required to stop the recession and that later on skin grafting could restore my gums over the root. They also told me I had 12 cavities that needed to be filled. My prior dentist a year earlier told me my teeth were fine. They canceled my regular cleaning, as it was not sufficient for the amount of disarray in my mouth, and took me into a little room to discuss my several thousand dollar treatment solution. The woman there told me that I needed to go to my employer and get the higher level dental insurance so that I would only need to pay about $3k out of pocket. I left in a panic and asked my parents if we had a family history of complete mouth disintegration around age 30. They said no, and advised me to find another dentist. I bought a water pick and spent a few months religiously cleaning my gums and using the fancy mouthwash and my gums grew back over the root and no longer hurts(that advice was thanks to Dr. Google). Then, I found another dentist who took another set of X-rays and was astounded to hear him finish his exam and say “everything looks good, no cavities, just some minor plaque buildup and we’ll get that off right now”. Hope this can help someone else save some hard earned money.

Perio Questions from Inglewood Patients Answered by Our Team
The cost depends on the stage of gum disease and the care your gums need, so we confirm it after an exam rather than online. Many treatment plans are covered in part by dental insurance. Call our team to review your options for periodontics near you.
Yes, in our Inglewood clinic we offer laser periodontal therapy as part of Periodontics (Perio) treatment when it’s suitable for your condition. It helps us gently remove infected gum tissue and reduce bacteria with precision, often leading to less bleeding, less discomfort, and a faster recovery compared to traditional methods. Our team will first evaluate your gums and then recommend whether laser treatment is the right option for your case.
A Periodontics (Perio) treatment appointment in our Inglewood clinic usually takes between 45 to 90 minutes, depending on the severity of your gum condition and the type of cleaning or therapy needed. Simple deep cleaning sessions may be quicker, while more advanced periodontal care can take longer. Our team will always explain the expected time before starting your treatment so you know exactly what to expect.
