Warning Signs We Look For Before Recommending Perio Care in Culver City

Gum disease often advances quietly, so early signs are easy to brush off until the infection reaches the bone. During a periodontal evaluation, we measure and inspect your gums to decide whether you need active treatment or closer monitoring.

Here are the warning signs that bring most local patients in for gum care:

  • Gums that bleed when you brush or floss
  • Red, swollen, or tender gum tissue
  • Persistent bad breath that does not clear with brushing
  • Gums pulling away from your teeth, making teeth look longer
  • Deep periodontal pockets found when we measure with a periodontal probe
  • Loose teeth or a bite that suddenly feels different
  • A bad taste or discharge between the teeth and gums

Many people notice bleeding first and assume it is normal. It is not, and catching it early often means we can reverse it with a deep cleaning instead of surgery. If any of these sound familiar, call us at 310-643-6611 to schedule a periodontal exam.

The Perio Treatment Steps We Follow in Our Culver City Clinic

Effective periodontal therapy follows a clear sequence, moving from diagnosis to active treatment to long-term maintenance. Here is how a typical treatment journey unfolds in our clinic:

  1. Comprehensive exam. We measure pocket depths with a periodontal probe and take dental X-rays to check bone levels around each tooth.
  2. Diagnosis and staging. We explain whether you have gingivitis, early periodontitis, or advanced disease, and what it means for your teeth.
  3. Scaling and root planing. This deep cleaning clears plaque and tartar below the gumline and smooths root surfaces so gums can reattach. Ultrasonic scalers make it faster and more comfortable.
  4. Targeted therapy when needed. For deeper infection, we may add laser periodontal therapy, antibiotic therapy, or pocket reduction support.
  5. Regeneration and repair. When bone loss is present, bone grafting, gum grafting, and Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) help rebuild lost structure.
  6. Periodontal maintenance. Once the infection is controlled, we schedule regular maintenance cleanings to keep it from returning.

Most patients complete the first cleaning visits over one to two appointments. Our clinic builds each plan around your stage of disease, not a one-size-fits-all script. To start with a thorough periodontal exam, call our Culver City clinic at 310-643-6611.

How We Treat Gum Disease at Toothopia Dental in Culver City

We treat gum disease by matching the therapy to the severity of the infection, starting with the least invasive option that will work. The goal is to stop the bacterial infection, shrink periodontal pockets, and protect the bone that supports your teeth.

Early gingivitis often reverses with a deep cleaning and a better home care routine. For established periodontitis, we combine scaling and root planing with the diode laser, which gently removes diseased tissue and lowers bacteria inside the pocket. When recession or bone loss is involved, regenerative therapy comes in, including gum grafting to cover exposed roots and advanced options such as the Rejuvagum Lift and Advanced Platelet-Rich Fibrin (APRF). If a tooth cannot be saved, we also plan ahead for options like dental implants, which need healthy bone to succeed.

How We Manage Pain and Anxiety During Perio Treatment in Culver City

Comfort is part of the treatment, not an afterthought. Many people put off gum care because they feel nervous, so we build in several ways to keep you relaxed and pain-free:

  • Local anesthesia to fully numb the area before any deep cleaning or surgery
  • Sedation dentistry, including IV sedation, for dental anxiety or longer procedures
  • Gentle, laser-assisted techniques that often mean less bleeding and faster healing
  • A pace you control, with breaks whenever you need them

I've been traumatized to go to the dentist since I was 12... I finally got dental insurance 4 years ago, but went to another dentist that traumatized me even more.... 4 years later, I found the best dentist I didn't even know existed which was only 7 minutes away from my house... it was like watching heavens door open, not to be dramatic or anything, but I was truly blessed no lie.... my biggest worry was a root canal I haven't covered in 14 years, they fixed that right up, gave me a crown, did my cleaning, filled some old cavity fillings and the price was heaven sent as well with my insurance I could cry... I finally am able to fix my teeth without struggling to choose between having a healthy mouth or buying groceries ...and the front desk is so nice! Everyone is so nice! They remember your face and name it doesn't even feel like im going to the dentist, thank you so much for existing

I came here because my tooth was hurting. My gum had receded and exposed the root. They told me that my gums were never going to grow back and and that a deep cleaning was required to stop the recession and that later on skin grafting could restore my gums over the root. They also told me I had 12 cavities that needed to be filled. My prior dentist a year earlier told me my teeth were fine. They canceled my regular cleaning, as it was not sufficient for the amount of disarray in my mouth, and took me into a little room to discuss my several thousand dollar treatment solution. The woman there told me that I needed to go to my employer and get the higher level dental insurance so that I would only need to pay about $3k out of pocket. I left in a panic and asked my parents if we had a family history of complete mouth disintegration around age 30. They said no, and advised me to find another dentist. I bought a water pick and spent a few months religiously cleaning my gums and using the fancy mouthwash and my gums grew back over the root and no longer hurts(that advice was thanks to Dr. Google). Then, I found another dentist who took another set of X-rays and was astounded to hear him finish his exam and say “everything looks good, no cavities, just some minor plaque buildup and we’ll get that off right now”. Hope this can help someone else save some hard earned money.

Perio Treatment Questions from Culver City Patients

How much does Periodontics treatment cost near me in Culver City?

The cost of periodontal treatment depends on factors such as the severity of gum disease, the number of affected areas, pocket depth, bone loss, and the type of treatment required. A periodontal exam at our Culver City clinic helps determine the exact care plan and estimated cost.

What treatments are available for gum disease at your Culver City clinic?

We offer the full range of periodontal care in Culver City, from deep cleanings to advanced surgery, matched to your stage of disease. Common options include scaling and root planing, laser periodontal therapy, antibiotic therapy, pocket reduction, and regenerative treatments such as gum grafting, bone grafting, and PRF. After a periodontal exam, our team recommends the least invasive treatment that will protect your teeth and gums.

Do you treat children for gum problems at your Culver City clinic?

Yes, we care for children with gum problems at our Culver City clinic, most often early gingivitis from plaque buildup or inconsistent brushing. In kids, gum disease is usually mild and reversible, so treatment centers on a gentle cleaning, home care coaching, and monitoring as their teeth develop. If you have noticed swollen or bleeding gums in your child near you, bring them in for a quick, low-stress evaluation.
