What Your Child Can Expect During the Kids Tooth Fillings Process in Inglewood
The kids tooth fillings process at Toothopia is simple, gentle, and usually finished in a single visit. We start by making sure your child is comfortable, then move through each step at a pace that feels easy for them.
Here is what a typical children's dental fillings visit looks like:
- Check the tooth: A gentle exam and, when needed, a digital dental X-ray to check the size of the cavity.
- Numb the area: A small amount of topical gel to numb the area, followed by local anesthesia if it is needed.
- Remove the decay: Careful, gentle removal of the decayed part of the tooth.
- Clean and prep: Cleaning the area to prepare it for the new filling.
- Place the filling: Placing tooth-colored composite resin and shaping it to match the natural tooth.
- Harden it: Using a curing light to harden the material so it stays strong.
- Final check: Checking your child's bite and polishing the filling for a smooth finish.
Most fillings take only a short time, and children can usually return to normal activity the same day. If your child has several cavities, we may space treatment across a couple of visits to keep each appointment short and stress-free.
Signs Our Dentists May Recommend Pediatric Dental Fillings

Our pediatric dentist may recommend a filling when tooth decay has started, but the tooth can still be saved and restored. Catching decay early keeps a small cavity from turning into a larger problem that needs more involved care later.
Watch for these common signs that your child may need a filling:
- A dark spot, chalky white spot, or a visible hole on a tooth
- Sensitivity to sweet, hot, or cold foods and drinks
- Tooth pain while eating or brushing
- Food that keeps getting caught in the same spot
- A tooth that looks worn, chipped, or cracked
Cavity fillings for kids are one of the most common treatments we provide, and a well-timed child tooth filling can stop decay before it reaches the nerve. Baby teeth matter more than many parents expect. Even though they eventually fall out, primary teeth guide adult teeth into place and help your child chew and speak clearly. Treating decay early protects the healthy tooth developing underneath and supports your child's dental health. If you have spotted any of these signs, our team can examine your child's teeth and explain whether a filling is the right step.

What Our Inglewood Patients Say About Toothopia Dental
I'm forever grateful for Toothopia and all their whole staff! Every time I come here I feel incredibly welcomed and everyone is so friendly, understanding and kind. A big thanks to Kelly and Georgina! I still have a lot of work to get done on my teeth but today I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Nadia and Victoria for taking care of me today and doing an amazing job on teeth!
The staff is outstanding, always helpful. Kelly has been a lot of help with keeping my balance straight, lol. She good at what she does. Dr. Michelle does outstanding work, I highly recommend her for all your dental work. My crown fit perfect, the color matched all the rest of my teeth. I’m so pleased with the work that I’ve had done.
I came here because my tooth was hurting. My gum had receded and exposed the root. They told me that my gums were never going to grow back and and that a deep cleaning was required to stop the recession and that later on skin grafting could restore my gums over the root. They also told me I had 12 cavities that needed to be filled. My prior dentist a year earlier told me my teeth were fine. They canceled my regular cleaning, as it was not sufficient for the amount of disarray in my mouth, and took me into a little room to discuss my several thousand dollar treatment solution. The woman there told me that I needed to go to my employer and get the higher level dental insurance so that I would only need to pay about $3k out of pocket. I left in a panic and asked my parents if we had a family history of complete mouth disintegration around age 30. They said no, and advised me to find another dentist. I bought a water pick and spent a few months religiously cleaning my gums and using the fancy mouthwash and my gums grew back over the root and no longer hurts(that advice was thanks to Dr. Google). Then, I found another dentist who took another set of X-rays and was astounded to hear him finish his exam and say “everything looks good, no cavities, just some minor plaque buildup and we’ll get that off right now”. Hope this can help someone else save some hard earned money.
