When Our Clinic Recommends Oral Surgery in Inglewood

Oral surgery becomes the right choice when a tooth, or the bone around it, can no longer be saved through simpler care. We recommend it only after a careful look at your situation, never as a first step.

You may need surgical treatment if you are dealing with any of the following:

  • A badly decayed or broken tooth that cannot be repaired with a filling or crown
  • Impacted wisdom teeth or other third molars trapped under the gum or bone
  • A painful dental infection that has spread beyond the tooth
  • Tooth loss that calls for bone grafting before a dental implant can be placed
  • Cysts, oral tumours, or other findings that need a biopsy or removal
  • Jaw misalignment or structural issues that affect how you bite, chew, or sleep

Many patients in Inglewood wait too long, hoping the discomfort will fade on its own. The sooner we assess the problem, the more options you usually have. If something in your mouth feels wrong, reach out and let us take a look before it grows into something bigger.

How We Evaluate Oral Surgery Needs for Patients in Inglewood

We confirm the need for surgery through a thorough exam and clear diagnostic imaging, not guesswork. Every recommendation is backed by what we actually see in your mouth and on the scan.

Here is how that evaluation usually unfolds:

  1. We start with a focused exam of the tooth, gums, and surrounding jawbone.
  2. We capture detailed images using CBCT imaging and digital imaging to map the bone, nerves, and tooth roots.
  3. We review your medical history and symptoms such as swelling, pressure, or facial pain.
  4. We talk through what we find and build a personalized treatment plan that fits your needs.

For a complex case, such as significant bone loss or a previously failed treatment, this diagnostic step matters even more. Accurate imaging helps us protect nearby nerves and plan a safer procedure. If you already have a recent X-ray or scan from another office, bring it to your consultation so we can build on it.

What Our Oral Surgery Process Will Look Like for Patients in Inglewood

Your treatment follows a clear, step-by-step path, so you always know what comes next. We pace each stage around your comfort and keep you informed the whole way through.

A typical journey looks like this:

  1. A consultation and diagnostic imaging to confirm the plan.
  2. A review of anesthesia and sedation options, so you can choose how relaxed you want to be.
  3. The procedure itself is performed with local anesthetic and, when appropriate, sedation dentistry for nervous patients.
  4. Clear aftercare instructions before you leave, covering diet, cleaning, and pain control.
  5. A recovery period that we monitor, with follow-up if any concerns come up.

If you live with dental anxiety, tell us early. We can slow the pace, explain each step before it happens, and offer sedation so the visit feels calmer. For an urgent case with severe swelling or infection, we work to see you quickly and relieve the pressure as soon as it is safe to do so.

How Our Clinic Uses Oral Surgery to Protect Your Smile

Oral surgery does more than solve an immediate problem. Done well, it protects the long-term health of your bite, your remaining teeth, and your jawbone.

Removing an infected or impacted tooth stops damage from spreading to healthy neighbors. Bone grafting rebuilds the foundation a future implant or restoration depends on. Treating cysts or oral pathology early keeps small issues from becoming serious ones. In many cases, a well-planned procedure today prevents far more complex treatment down the road.

We also see surgery as one piece of your overall care. After you heal, we help you stay on track with regular cleanings, checkups, and a simple plan to keep your smile strong for years to come.

The staff is outstanding, always helpful. Kelly has been a lot of help with keeping my balance straight, lol. She good at what she does. Dr. Michelle does outstanding work, I highly recommend her for all your dental work. My crown fit perfect, the color matched all the rest of my teeth. I’m so pleased with the work that I’ve had done.

I came here because my tooth was hurting. My gum had receded and exposed the root. They told me that my gums were never going to grow back and and that a deep cleaning was required to stop the recession and that later on skin grafting could restore my gums over the root. They also told me I had 12 cavities that needed to be filled. My prior dentist a year earlier told me my teeth were fine. They canceled my regular cleaning, as it was not sufficient for the amount of disarray in my mouth, and took me into a little room to discuss my several thousand dollar treatment solution. The woman there told me that I needed to go to my employer and get the higher level dental insurance so that I would only need to pay about $3k out of pocket. I left in a panic and asked my parents if we had a family history of complete mouth disintegration around age 30. They said no, and advised me to find another dentist. I bought a water pick and spent a few months religiously cleaning my gums and using the fancy mouthwash and my gums grew back over the root and no longer hurts(that advice was thanks to Dr. Google). Then, I found another dentist who took another set of X-rays and was astounded to hear him finish his exam and say “everything looks good, no cavities, just some minor plaque buildup and we’ll get that off right now”. Hope this can help someone else save some hard earned money.
