Ideal Candidates for Oral Surgery at Our Culver City Clinic
Good candidates for oral surgery are patients whose dental problem cannot be fully solved with fillings, cleanings, or simple in-office treatment. After a careful exam and diagnostic imaging, we confirm whether a surgical approach is the safest and most predictable option for your situation.
You may be a candidate if you have:
- Impacted wisdom teeth or other impacted teeth, including third molars that cannot come in properly
- Severe tooth decay or a broken tooth that needs a surgical tooth extraction
- Tooth loss and a need for bone grafting before dental implants
- A dental infection, cysts, or signs of oral pathology that need treatment
- Jaw misalignment, TMJ disorders, or ongoing facial pain affecting daily function
- Teeth that must be removed before orthodontic or restorative work
Not every problem needs surgery. For patients who feel anxious the moment they hear that word, we review the findings together and recommend treatment only after an in-person assessment. If a tooth can be saved without surgery, we tell you honestly. Want clarity on your own case? Book a consultation and we will walk you through exactly what your scan shows.
Oral Surgery Procedures in Culver City We Provide
Oral surgery, also called oral and maxillofacial surgery, is the surgical care of the teeth, jaws, mouth, and the wider craniomaxillofacial complex, meaning the bones and soft tissue of the face. It is performed by an oral surgeon, also known as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Our surgical team at Toothopia Dental performs a wide range of procedures under one roof, so most patients stay with the same familiar faces from diagnosis through recovery. Common treatments include:
- Wisdom teeth extraction, including impacted third molars and other surgical extractions
- Complex tooth extractions for severely decayed, broken, or infected teeth
- Dental implant placement to replace one or more missing teeth
- Bone grafting and bone regeneration to rebuild lost jawbone and dental bone structure
- Sinus lift procedures that support upper-jaw implants
- Exposure of impacted teeth to assist orthodontic treatment
- Removal of cysts, oral tumors, and other oral pathology, including biopsies when needed, plus screening that can catch early signs of oral cancer
- Apicoectomy, or root-end surgery, to save a tooth after a failed root canal
- Oral soft tissue surgery and pre-prosthetic surgery to prepare the mouth for dentures or other restorations
Each procedure is planned around your specific anatomy. In a case of tooth impaction close to a nerve or the sinus, detailed imaging guides every step to lower risk and protect the oral structures around it.
Oral Surgery Process at Toothopia Dental in Culver City
Knowing what happens at each stage removes much of the fear around surgery. Here is the step-by-step oral surgery process our team follows, from your first scan to a smooth recovery:
- CBCT Imaging and Diagnosis. We start with diagnostic imaging, including a 3D CBCT scan and digital imaging, plus a clinical exam to see bone density, nerve position, and the exact shape of the problem. This gives an accurate diagnosis instead of guesswork.
- Personalized Treatment Planning. Using those images, we build a personalized treatment plan, discuss sedation choices, and explain the timeline and aftercare, so nothing on treatment day comes as a surprise.
- Surgical Procedure with Sedation. On the day of surgery, we use a local anesthetic, and sedation dentistry options when appropriate, to keep you relaxed and comfortable. Many single-tooth procedures take roughly 30 to 60 minutes under local anesthesia, while complex cases take longer.
- Recovery and Aftercare. You go home with clear written aftercare instructions and a direct number to reach us. The recovery period varies, but many patients return to light daily activity within 24 to 48 hours.
For patients who want fast results, planning ahead lets us combine steps where it is safe, which shortens the overall timeline without cutting corners.
Benefits of Oral Surgery at Our Clinic in Culver City
The benefit patients notice first is relief. Surgery that ends chronic pain, clears a dental infection, or removes a failing tooth often improves daily life within days. Beyond comfort, the right procedure at Toothopia Dental protects your long-term oral health and supports the surrounding jawbone.
Patients commonly gain:
- Lasting relief from pain, pressure, and recurring infection
- A stable foundation for dental implants, supported by healthy dental bone structure
- Protection for neighboring teeth, bone, and soft tissue
- Restored ability to chew, speak, and sleep without discomfort
- A clear path forward instead of repeated short-term fixes
In our clinical experience at Toothopia Dental, patients who address a problem early tend to face simpler procedures and a smoother recovery period than those who wait until the pain becomes severe. One local patient came to us after avoiding a cracked molar for months out of fear. A single 3D scan, a clear plan, and light sedation later, the extraction was finished in under an hour, and the relief was immediate.
Advanced Oral and Jaw Surgery in Culver City Performed by Our Surgical Team
Some cases need far more than a routine extraction, and those situations are exactly what our surgical team is built for. Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a broad field that also covers jaw surgery, orthognathic surgery for significant jaw misalignment, and reconstruction involving the facial bones. For the most complex needs, including facial reconstruction surgery, cleft lip and palate, and the treatment of oral cancer, we focus on accurate diagnosis, clear guidance, and coordinating the right specialist care so you are never left to navigate it alone.
In cases of bone loss after long-term tooth loss, we may stage bone grafting and bone regeneration before placing implants. If a patient takes blood thinners or manages a condition such as diabetes, we adjust the plan and the pacing to keep treatment safe. Corrective jaw surgery can also address problems tied to jaw misalignment, including some cases linked to obstructive sleep apnea. For a nervous patient facing a larger procedure, sedation paired with a slower, fully explained approach makes the experience much more manageable.
Guided planning from CBCT imaging lets us treat these harder cases with precision, protecting nerves, sinuses, and healthy bone at every step.

What Our Oral Surgery Patients in Culver City Say About Us
I'm forever grateful for Toothopia and all their whole staff! Every time I come here I feel incredibly welcomed and everyone is so friendly, understanding and kind. A big thanks to Kelly and Georgina! I still have a lot of work to get done on my teeth but today I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Nadia and Victoria for taking care of me today and doing an amazing job on teeth!
The staff is outstanding, always helpful. Kelly has been a lot of help with keeping my balance straight, lol. She good at what she does. Dr. Michelle does outstanding work, I highly recommend her for all your dental work. My crown fit perfect, the color matched all the rest of my teeth. I’m so pleased with the work that I’ve had done.
I came here because my tooth was hurting. My gum had receded and exposed the root. They told me that my gums were never going to grow back and and that a deep cleaning was required to stop the recession and that later on skin grafting could restore my gums over the root. They also told me I had 12 cavities that needed to be filled. My prior dentist a year earlier told me my teeth were fine. They canceled my regular cleaning, as it was not sufficient for the amount of disarray in my mouth, and took me into a little room to discuss my several thousand dollar treatment solution. The woman there told me that I needed to go to my employer and get the higher level dental insurance so that I would only need to pay about $3k out of pocket. I left in a panic and asked my parents if we had a family history of complete mouth disintegration around age 30. They said no, and advised me to find another dentist. I bought a water pick and spent a few months religiously cleaning my gums and using the fancy mouthwash and my gums grew back over the root and no longer hurts(that advice was thanks to Dr. Google). Then, I found another dentist who took another set of X-rays and was astounded to hear him finish his exam and say “everything looks good, no cavities, just some minor plaque buildup and we’ll get that off right now”. Hope this can help someone else save some hard earned money.
